Are you using the internet to promote your products or services? If so, you have an amazing opportunity to use the power of search engine optimization (SEO), content marketing and social media marketing to increase the visibility of your campaigns, leading to more sales. Building an SEO plan involves many different components and you may not know how to get started or take your plan to the next level. Having been involved with SEO and multilingual and international SEO for over two decades now, I’ve learned a ton about the topic and I’m passionate about sharing my knowledge with others.
If you have little to no knowledge in this area as of right now, then I invite you to attend one our upcoming two-day SEO certification classes in Denver or Boulder, Colorado. In this training, you’ll learn how to create an SEO plan to increase brand awareness and sales from your digital marketing activities, and you’ll leave with an SEO certificate.
In fact, after attending one of our workshops, a student reported to us that the newly acquired knowledge (with some implementation help from us) helped him dramatically boost online sales directly related to an increase in Google organic search traffic:
In this blog post, I’ll discuss three very important components of an SEO plan at a high level:
- How to find the right target keywords
- How to develop a content marketing plan
- And how to develop a social media marketing plan that will support your overall SEO strategy
1. Finding Keywords to Use in Your SEO Plan
Search engine optimization is all about knowing what words or phrases your customers are using to search for things online and then using those words (keywords) strategically throughout your content and in your meta tags. If you plan your SEO strategy well using the many tools that are available, your website and / or content should move up in rankings, leading to potential new customers and an increase in sales.
I’ve developed a hands-on keyword research exercise for our class. We begin by exploring how potential customers are searching for the products or services you offer. We then take this data and follow my methodology to determine which keywords you can start using in your SEO plan right away. The keyword research exercise is really important to get right so we work on the exercise together. We also give you the time to research your own keywords and ask questions.
2. Developing a Content Marketing Plan
Developing the high-quality content for marketing, whether it’s about your business in general or for a specific marketing campaign, is a critical component of your SEO strategy. You have to make content marketing a priority with the right resources, funding and tools. Despite the importance of having a systematic way to develop content, a lot of companies aren’t doing it. I know it’s a challenge so I’ll share some tips with you during the class that may help address your concerns. It’s also critical to track the results of your content marketing strategy and I’ll share some tools that you can use to do so.
3. Developing a Social Media Marketing Plan That Supports Your SEO Strategy
Using social media platforms like Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram to promote your high-quality content is also an important marketing strategy. Let’s say you develop an article on a customer pain point and solution. Sure, you can add the article to your website and you’ll get some hits. However, if you want to promote that article for people who don’t know about your business, you need to develop a social media marketing plan to expand your reach.
I’ve written extensively on how to use LinkedIn and SlideShare for search engine optimization and invite you to read this interview.
