In simple terms, a mobile website is a website that can be easily viewed and navigated on a smartphone or tablet. My goal in this article is to help you understand the importance of having one for your business.
Have you ever had this experience? You’re in a car or walking down the street and want to find a place to eat. You pull out your smartphone and find the website for a restaurant close by. Then the problems begin. You struggle to read it. You can’t find what you want. Where’s the menu? Hours? Phone number? It’s taking way too long to find what you want, so you move on to find another restaurant. This scenario happens every single day and businesses are losing out because of it!
I’m sure you are hearing all kinds of information about mobile and mobile marketing, but may have a hard time making heads or tails of it. You may be asking yourself, what is important about mobile for my business and how I can best use it to increase sales? Well, the first place I would recommend any business start is with a mobile website.
Just search the internet for mobile statistics and a host of information will come up,
but here are two that have the most relevance to why a mobile website is the best way for any business to get started using mobile.
By 2014, mobile internet is predicted to take over desktop internet usage. (Microsoft Tag, 2012)
57% of consumers will not recommend a business with a poorly designed mobile site and 40% of consumers will go to a competitor’s site after a bad mobile experience. (Compuware, 2012)
The two most popular types of mobile websites are responsive design and dedicated mobile websites. With responsive design you use a single website for all devices. Your website will automatically reformat to display properly on a desktop, tablet, or phone. With a dedicated mobile website you have two separate sites: one for desktop and one for mobile. This gives you the ability to change and cater content specifically for mobile, which can be very powerful for certain types of businesses. Which type is right for you? It depends on your business and the type of content your customers are looking for when they come to your website.
If you don’t have a mobile website now is the time. Speak with an expert who can help you determine the best type of mobile site for your business. Not only will you be happy you did, but your customers will be too!
Rialto Mobile Marketing can help with all of your mobile web design needs.
