Are Your SEO Strategies Actually Working? Here’s How to Tell

Wondering if your SEO strategies are actually working? Check out the video above to learn how you can tell. In it, I talk about the latest episode of Google’s Search Off the Record podcast, which features an interview with Erika Varangouli, head of Branded Content at Riverside.fm. She talks about evaluating the success of your SEO efforts. I highly recommend you listen to the entire episode when you have the time because it’s super interesting. It’s also a great reminder that whether you do your own SEO in-house or work with an agency, it’s important to consider how well it’s working from time to time.

One of the easiest ways to gauge whether your SEO is working is by evaluating organic search traffic. This is a metric you can track in Google Search Console. If your traffic is increasing year over year, you’re likely doing something right. If, on the other hand, you’re not getting the results you want, it’s wise to consider changing things up. That could mean tweaking your DIY approach, or it could mean hiring a different agency.

Whether an agency in question can help depends on a variety of factors. To learn about the types of clients BSM works with, check out this questionnaire. This is the kind of information we request from potential clients to see if we’ll be a good fit. If you’re working with an agency and they haven’t asked these kinds of questions, they may not have everything they need to deploy effective strategies on your behalf. (And if you’re doing SEO yourself and you’re not sure about the answers to these questions, it may be worth reaching out to an agency for some guidance.)
