Google Is Indexing Emails—Here’s What You Should Know | Friday SEO Tip
Today, I’m sharing how to adapt your SEO strategy in light of Google’s latest shift—and how your marketing emails could become a powerful SEO asset. Barb Senkala, our Senior Project Account Manager, stepped in to cover this while I’m attending AgencyCon 2025 as an official SE Ranking ambassador. Check out the video above to learn more.
What Is Email SEO?
Google can now crawl and index publicly accessible marketing emails, either by auto-subscribing to public sign-up forms or by being manually added to a brand’s distribution list. To opt in directly, you can add marketingemailtogoog@gmail.com to your email list.
If enabled through your Google Merchant Center settings, Google may extract information like promotions, product announcements, and social links from your emails. That content can then be displayed in search results, Shopping, or even Google Maps listings.
Why It Matters
If you’ve ever run a flash sale or launched a new product through email, you can now surface that campaign to searchers who may have never joined your list. It’s a way to get time-sensitive content indexed quickly, without waiting for Google to crawl your site.
But there’s a tradeoff: You’ll have less control over how and where that content appears.
Optimizing for Email SEO
If you opt in, make sure your emails are clear, structured, and crawler-friendly. Avoid image-only emails. Utilize well-organized HTML, relevant subject lines, and plain text to convey key information.
