Use Google Trends to Find Keywords with More Potential

The Google Search Central team just posted another tutorial episode on Google Trends. In it, they explain how you can use the tool to support your SEO efforts, particularly when it comes to keyword research. Check out the video above to see what I mean.

In the video, I use the Google Trends tool to see how many people are searching for “Maine coon kittens for sale.” As you can see, interest over time is trending up, which means it’s likely a good keyword (and that’s exactly why we targeted it for one of our clients).

In their video, the Google Search Central team also mentions how users often overlook the various kinds of searches people perform, as well as the different types of platforms they’re searching on. Depending on your target audience, though, it may be worthwhile to explore. Don’t overlook image search trends, for example, or even YouTube search trends, as you could glean valuable data.

At the end of the day, Google Trends provides a great starting point for keyword research. When you’re ready to dig a little deeper, though, check out SE Ranking. Their keyword research tool is incredibly in-depth. You can see it in action in the video above. (And you can get a one-month subscription on BSM by clicking here!)
