Defined as the process of buying and selling products or services exclusively through electronic channels, the growth in ecommerce (aka e-commerce) transactions continues to skyrocket.
The U.S. Census Bureau has been collecting data on ecommerce retail sales since 1998. In fact, the agency states that ecommerce sales have been growing nine times faster than traditional in-store sales since 1998. In the USA alone, ecommerce sales for 2017 were estimated at $453.5 billion, up 16% from 2016. According to Statista, ecommerce sales in the US in 2020 are projected to generate $561.5 billion and a stunning $638 billion in 2022.
