Google's AI Mode Goes Agentic (This Changes Everything) | Friday SEO Tip
This week’s tip covers the most significant search announcement I’ve seen in years. Check out the video above where I break down Google’s AI Mode and agentic capabilities
Google just announced that AI Mode is getting agentic features and expanding globally. If you think AI Overviews changed search, you haven’t seen anything yet.
From AI Overviews to AI Mode
You’ve probably encountered AI Overviews—those AI-generated summaries that appear for queries like “best time to hike Mount Kilimanjaro” (relevant since my wife and I are heading there September 5th!).
AI Mode represents the next evolution:
- More detailed, better organized information
- Integrated source citations that are visible
- Interactive follow-up questions
- And the game-changer: agentic capabilities
What Are Agentic Capabilities?
Here’s where it gets revolutionary. Instead of searching for information and then taking action yourself, you’ll tell Google’s AI what you need accomplished, and it will do it for you.
Want a dinner reservation for four people tonight at a vegan, gluten-free restaurant? AI Mode will make that reservation on your behalf. Need to book travel, purchase products, or schedule services? Just tell the AI what you want, provide payment details, and it handles everything.
This isn’t theoretical—this is rolling out now.
Why This Changes Everything
This represents the biggest shift in user behavior since Google launched. We’re moving from:
Old Model: Search → Click → Browse → Decide → Purchase
New Model: Tell AI what you want → AI completes the task
For our Micro SEO: Human-driven, AI-assisted SEO and content marketing strategies, this means we need to fundamentally rethink how businesses get discovered and selected in these agentic workflows.
The Infrastructure Is Already Being Built
Last week, my business partner Daniel Burns and I interviewed Duda CEO Itai Sadan at their headquarters in Louisville, Colorado. We had a fascinating conversation about how website platforms are heavily investing in AI infrastructure to support these agentic agents.

What This Means for Your Business
Google is rolling out technology that will reach billions of people globally. My team and I are already shifting our optimization strategies to prepare for AI Mode and agentic features.
The question isn’t whether this will impact your business—it’s whether you’ll be ready when it does.
This is the kind of industry-shifting change that reminds me why I still love SEO after all these years. We’re witnessing the future of search unfold in real-time.
More insights coming as this develops. Stay tuned.
Cheers,
Chris
