Master Prompt Engineering for SEO in Our Latest Workshop
Yesterday, BSM hosted a half-day workshop on AI Overviews and the art of prompt engineering. The entire workshop will be available on demand soon, so keep an eye out for access here.
For a deeper dive on prompt engineering for SEO, check out the video above.
Creating sophisticated—and highly specific—prompts is a critical skill for leveraging the power of large language models (LLMs) to streamline workflows. At BSM, we rely on a series of prompts to develop comprehensive outlines so we can carry out our Micro SEO methodology. This process helps us create content that consistently ranks at the top of Google search results. (Sidenote: If you’re totally new to prompting, Google offers a great guide to get you started.)
Our process involves using LLMs like Gemini to generate outlines. These outlines then go to our writers, who write copy that meets Google’s guidelines for helpful, reliable, people-first content. If you’d like to see this process in action and the impact it can have, check out this case study about a client we helped rank at the top of Google.
Top Tips for Prompting in SEO
During the workshop, we covered strategic prompts that will help you create quality content. Here’s a brief rundown of our top tips:
- Target Keywords and AI Overviews:
One of the most crucial prompts focuses on keywords. Be sure to check if Google provides an AI Overview for the keywords you’re targeting. If it does, the results will contain what we call the “Most Critical Information” (MCI)—essential data that should shape your content. - Incorporating MCI:
If Google isn’t generating an AI Overview for your target keywords, try a search in Gemini. This can provide a reliable overview that you can copy directly into your prompt, ensuring your content is on point for ranking. - Always Consider MCI for Top Rankings:
Consistently including MCI in your outlines, especially across all your target SEO keywords, will give you an edge in content relevancy and ranking potential. Remember: The more refined your prompts are, the better your LLM output will be!
