Push Back on Scammers with SEO: My LinkedIn Strategy

Today, I want to talk about one of my favorite platforms. If you haven’t guessed already, it’s LinkedIn.

LinkedIn is incredibly effective, even in unexpected ways. For instance, it can be a powerful tool if you’ve been wronged by a company. (Warning: Grumpy rant ahead.)

Don’t have time to watch the whole video? Well, I recently had a frustrating experience with a rental car company that seemed intent on scamming me. They wasted a lot of my time, so I decided to use my SEO know-how to turn the tables—and hopefully help others avoid the same fate.

I created a LinkedIn post detailing my encounter, filled with resources and references to others who had been scammed by this company, as well as information on how to report them. Essentially, I turned my frustration into a high-quality piece of content that serves as a thorough summary of what happened.

As it turns out, many customers had similar experiences, and my post quickly gained traction. (If you’ve ever been wronged by a company and want to help others while getting the company’s attention, writing about your experience and posting it on LinkedIn can be a powerful move.)

So, what did I do to give my post the best chance of success? Like most SEO strategies, it started with keyword research. I wanted to see if people were searching for information related to my experience. I was able to find a few relevant keywords with help from SE Ranking. Including them in my content ensured it would be discovered and gain visibility.

Within one day of publishing, my post started showing up at the top of Google for one of my target keywords. Why? Because it’s high-quality content written from the heart about a real experience.

The most exciting part? The post also started appearing in AI Overviews.

This is undoubtedly because Google has become very adept at identifying high-quality, relevant content and wants to feature it as much as possible.

While we may not be able to stop scammers entirely, you can at least take action if you’ve been wronged by a company. Use the power of search engine optimization to make your voice heard. At the very least, you might help others avoid getting scammed.
