SEO for Food and Beverage Companies: A Case Study

Suerte Tequila’s SEO Pilot: Turning Skepticism into Sales

A Boulder SEO Marketing Customer Case Study

The Challenge

Suerte Tequila had the quality, the branding, and a loyal following—but was SEO really something they needed? That was the million-dollar question. Like many brands in the alcohol branding space, they’d invested in distribution, social media, and word-of-mouth. But search rankings? That was uncharted territory.

When we first sat down with the Suerte team, it was clear they weren’t convinced. Would SEO move the needle for a premium yet playful tequila brand? They didn’t want a long-term commitment without proof of concept. So, we pitched a pilot project—a short-term engagement designed to test the waters.

Typically, SEO takes at least four to six months to gain traction, but after analyzing their market, their competition, and our own experience in food and beverage digital marketing, we saw an opportunity to prove our point much faster. The Blanco tequila page would be our test case. If we could get results there, it would pave the way for a full-scale SEO and content marketing strategy.

The Solution

From day one, this project had a different kind of energy. Two Boulder-based businesses teaming up? That’s a no-brainer. But more than that, we live and breathe SEO for food and beverage companies—with past work for brands like Star Beer, Crew Supply, Future Farm, and more. We knew what worked, and we were ready to bring that expertise to Suerte.

Of course, it also didn’t hurt that our team happens to love tequila. In fact, when this project kicked off, there was actual competition over who would get to run point. Stéphane Mongeon—a proud Canadian and an even prouder tequila drinker—won the bid. His argument? “I know tequila, and I know SEO. And let’s be real… good tequila isn’t exactly easy to find in Canada.” Fair enough.

We zeroed in on a Micro-SEO Strategy℠ focused entirely on the Blanco tequila page. The approach included:

  • Hyper-Optimized Product Page: We built out content that showcased Suerte’s authenticity while making it search-friendly.
  • BSM Copilot AI Optimization: Our proprietary AI agent helped us make data-backed decisions in real-time.
  • Supporting Content: Suerte didn’t have a blog before. Now they do. And that meant we could create a content hub to drive even more organic traffic.

And because we were up against the holiday season, we hustled hard to get everything live by January 20th.

The Results

Skeptical? Not anymore.

  • 50% more clicks year-over-year.
  • Impressions skyrocketed—a clear sign Google was loving the page.
  • Within six weeks, online sales jumped 60%, and total items sold increased by 65%.

That’s not normal for a brand-new page. But it reinforced what we already knew—Suerte had incredible tequila, and with the right SEO approach, we could make sure more people found it.

(And yes, we celebrated the win with a few well-earned shots of Suerte Blanco.)

What’s Next

Suerte is all in. The next move? Scaling this strategy across their entire lineup.

  • Reposado is next. It’s already performing well, but we’re taking it to the next level.
  • Then comes the main Suerte Tequila page.
  • And after that, we’ll tackle their canned margaritas.

What started as a pilot is now a full-fledged SEO strategy. The Suerte team is happy. Their sales prove that the strategy works. And with BSM Copilot continuing to optimize their digital presence, this is just the beginning.
