SEO packages for small businesses can vary greatly depending on a company’s specific needs and goals. In this quick guide, I’m providing answers to many of the frequently asked questions that I answer during a call with prospective new customers.

Let me address one of the most common misconceptions first. Many small and even mid-sized businesses believe that they can’t afford to work with a reputable digital marketing agency.

I’d turn that statement into a question and ask, “Can you afford NOT to invest in online marketing these days?” Here’s why… people are searching online for everything, and if your business isn’t showing up within the first 3-4 organic (non-paid) search engine results, you’re missing out on leads, sales, and an opportunity to build your brand.

Many of the small businesses that I speak with have tried to optimize their website themselves. Small business owners are good at running their business. However, they usually don’t have the knowledge or resources to properly handle digital marketing, which includes SEO, social media marketing, content marketing, pay-per-click campaigns, and other strategies to connect online with potential customers.

Hiring an outside digital marketing agency can be a great solution if you find yourself in this situation, and it’s usually well worth the investment. On the flip side, if a digital marketing company is offering services at a meager price, you’ll probably end up with someone who may be applying tactics and strategies that are against Google Webmaster Guidelines.

If you are thinking about hiring a cheap offshore agency, think twice. They may try to lure you in with a monthly investment of less than $500. Ask yourself, what kind of resources can they assign to your project for that kind of budget?

A true story: This small eCommerce customer below used to work with us for about a year before their new business consultant told them that they could save money by reducing their SEO budget. They eventually ended up signing on with a cheap SEO agency in India. Their new agency charged them about 25% of what this customer used to spend with us per month.

After seven months, the customer came back to us since their website started to lose organic search traffic, and their online sales took a nosedive.
